Fred Hollows Foundation implements a variety of programs to combat vision impairment in Vietnam. In 1993 the foundation launched a training program for hundreds of surgeons to perform modern sight-restoring cataract surgery (with IOLs) in collaboration with the Vietnam National Institute.

Patients sometimes skip doctor visits and head directly to pharmacies for medicines. PATH aims to train employees at pharmacies to be able to better diagnose patients and refer them to relevant clinics or hospitals.
